Belmont Day Nursery offers care and education through providing interesting activities, for children based on their age and stage of development and allowing children to learn through play. We recognise that every child deserves the best possible start in life to reach their full potential. All children at the nursery are respected and their individuality and potential recognised, valued and nurtured. We offer children opportunities to develop in an environment free from prejudice and discrimination.
The Early Years Foundation Stage divides children s learning and educational programme into six area’s known as the early learning goals these are:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
This is the development of confidence and independence, while learning how to concentrate, work, play co-operatively and make friends with others and mix in a group other than family. Learning how to share and take turns as well as building self esteem.

Communications, Language and Literacy
A key aspect here is communicating with one another and developing skills in talking, listening, writing and reading. Showing interest and enjoyment in books by looking at pictures and words,  turning the pages, beginning to recognise letters and attempting to write own name. Taking part in role-play and making up own stories.

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
Developing the concept of numbers, quantity, measurement, shapes, patterns and space. Learning to count and recognise numbers. Understanding mathematical and
positional language. Compare, sort, match, sequence and put in order using everyday objects.  Through practical activities, begin to solve problems.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Investigating and beginning to understand how to use the right tools for a task, how computers, tape recorders, vacuum cleaners, toasters etc work. Learning about places and people around us, as well as other cultures and environment that we live in.
Exploring  features of living things, natural and man-made objects.

Physical Development
Here we look to developing the physical control and co- ordination of children’s bodies, while learning manipulative skills to handle equipment and ability to handle objects, awareness of space around them, balance and movement.

Creative Development
Promoting the children’s imagination and their ability to communicate through art, role-play, dancing, sound, movement, stories and materials. To express their ideas and feelings. Explore textures, colour, space and form two and three dimensions.  Children responding to what they see, hear, smell and touch.
